A Fable

A Fable

     Once, five tradesmen approached a job as big as an elephant.  Wondering just what to make of the situation, they each decided to approach it and see what to make of it.  The first grabbed the elephant's tail, and said, 
  "Ah, the elephant must be for electrical purposes, for it is like a wire!"
The second, feeling the elephant's trunk, and said,
  "No, the elephant is not for wiring, it is for plumbing... for it is hollow like a pipe."
The third, feeling the leg, said,
  "The Elephant is not as you contend, anyone can tell how sturdy and strong it is, it must be for framing and foundations, as it is like a timber."
The forth, approached the rump, and exclaimed,
  "No you are all wrong, the elephant is large, like a tank of propane, and it even smells as foul."
The fifth felt an ear, and said,
  "Without a doubt, this elephant is not as you all say, for any fool can see it is really sheet flooring."
The argument went on for a while, even as the work progressed on the big job.  After a while it grew quiet and they could all hear noise from the cellar.  One followed the next down the stairs, and when their eyes adjusted to the dim space, they realized to their horror that the elephant was still in the basement...  One by one they escaped, each one telling them self,
"good thing that wasn't my job...."
And so the elephant is there to this day.
